Vienna (capital of Austria) is a very well-known city , due to the fact, that every y ear the New Year's
Concert is celebrated there and a lot of people pay large amounts of money to have the opportunity
to see the Vienna Philarmonic Orchestra play ing famous waltzes(lik e The blue Danube), polk as, and the
famous Radetzky March. Most of the pieces are composed by the Strauss Family .
The reason why this city is so important for music is because since the 17th century Vienna was the city
where a lot of wealthy people lived (aristocracy, noble gentlemen, princes and princesses) from central Europe in beautiful palaces and had an active social life. They organized parties where music was fundamental. In fact they needed people who play ed in the orchestra and composers, in order to have the most extraordinary celebrations. At these parties, people danced waltzes, polkas and this way they got to know each other.
In the 18th cry the composers Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven were there to look for patrons who paid
for their music.
In the 19th century the Strauss Family were the most famous composers of the city .
Johann Strauss (father) composed the Radetzky March. Johann Strauss (son) composed The blue Danube (among a lot others).
Every year this tradition takes place in Vienna, where one of the most important orchestras plays.
